Alicorn backs cloud management and optimisation tool Zesty

Alicorn is pleased to announce our investment into cloud optimisation and management tool Zesty. The investment comes at a key growth inflexion point for Zesty and we look foward to joining the team on their journey.

As cloud adoption surges, businesses are drawn by the allure of scalability and cost savings. Yet, they grapple with the complexities of cloud management and resourcing. DevOps teams find themselves expending valuable time on manual optimisation of intricate cloud resources to align with their budgets. Often, these teams procure resources without monitoring usage or deallocating unused ones, expecting to need those instances in the near future.

In FY2021, cloud waste, as reported by Gartner, drained a staggering $26.6 billion from businesses. The imperative for companies is clear: optimise cloud resources to eliminate waste. By right-sizing cloud resources, businesses can shed unnecessary costs. Presently, most cloud management tools focus on reporting cloud spend and whether the resources were utilised by the business.

The cloud market is dominated by major players—AWS, Azure, GCP, and Alibaba Cloud, collectively holding 70% of the market. With limited competition, these giants lack significant incentives to fine-tune customer usage and spending. AWS, for example, commands 34% of the market and offers three instance types: reserved instances, on-demand instances, and spot instances, each with varying price points.

Enterprises need real-time cloud optimisation with minimal risks and cost reduction. Zesty emerges as the trailblazer in autonomous cloud cost optimisation tools. The company excels at real-time optimisation and allocation of cloud resources, aligning them with actual demand.

Their product empowers companies to curtail cloud expenses while sustaining optimal application performance. Zesty offers two core products:

1. Commitment Manager: This tool dynamically buys and sells reserved instances based on compute requirements. It slashes costs by up to 60% compared to on-demand instances. Zesty charges customers a base rate of 25% of what they would have spent on on-demand instances.

2. Zesty Disk: This tool automatically adjusts storage capacity as needed. While expanding storage in the cloud is simple, shrinking it poses complexity and consumes developers’ time. Zesty Disk streamlines storage optimisation, costs, and time, making it a critical asset for developers.

The cloud management and optimisation space is propelled by strong tailwinds, fostering innovation and attracting substantial funding. Zesty’s early success is fuelled by the surge in cloud adoption, mounting costs, and the escalating complexity of cloud usage. This trend leaves companies grappling with the challenge of gaining complete visibility into their spending across technologies and multi-cloud environments.
